The Best Ways to Stay Cool This Summer

With warm temperatures in the forecast, immersing yourself in a cool body of water or escaping the heat with indoor activities seems like the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Below are some ”refreshing” ways you can cool off and have fun in Reno Tahoe this summer.

Hang Out at Pools and Water Parks in Reno

If you want to get a little wild, then Wild Island, one of the most popular water parks in Reno is the place for you. This family adventure water park is located in Sparks near the Outlets at Legends. Enjoy smooth sailing on the lazy river, or check out one of the many water slides available. Tiny Tides offers a water park specifically designed for children under 54" with attractions like a miniature wave pool and more. For those over 21, stop by Kokomo’s Island Bar for a refreshing tropical cocktail. Bring your sunscreen, grab a towel and head on over to Wild Island!

Just want to chill out? Reno and Sparks have a variety of pools where you can lounge and cool off. For an outdoor option, North Valleys Splash Park in north Reno has water slides and a play area for kids, and several area pools offer a mix of open and lap swimming. For a resort experience, The Pool at Grand Sierra Resort has food, full bar and cabanas available for rent.

Explore Museums in Reno

Expand your mind and take advantage of the AC this summer in one of the many museums in Reno. As the only nationally accredited museum in the state, the Nevada Museum of Art is a must-see. Located just south of downtown, the museum features rotating exhibitions by national and international artists as well as permanent collections divided into thematic areas. If science is more of your jam, the Discovery Museum is an excellent choice. Experience hands-on galleries and exhibitions, and a robust array of educational programs. The Discovery Museum specializes in informal science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) learning. Are you a car buff? If so, you’re in luck! Reno is home to the National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection). See the world-famous personal car collection of casino magnate Bill Harrah on display. With over 200 vehicles, travel through time and see how far the automobile industry has come. Beat the heat, and see this expansive collection for yourself.

Take a Trip to Lake Tahoe

This alpine beauty is located less than an hour from downtown Reno. Lake Tahoe is a prime destination for any outdoor lover. Get your heart pumping on a hike to a panoramic view, or take your mountain bike on the popular Flume Trail. If you would like to spend more time lakeside, check out Sand Harbor. The state park rents kayaks and paddleboards, but if you’re looking to soak up some sun, don’t worry, there are plenty of other beaches in Lake Tahoe. No matter your activity of choice, escape the heat and explore the pristine shores of Lake Tahoe.
