Sandwich Shops That Locals Swear By

When it comes to lunch, you don't want to take chances. These local sandwich shops stack up to the competition, and might even be worth planning your entire day around. From classic flavors to creative combos, these are the places that always rise to the top when someone asks, "So, what should we do for lunch?"

Best-Loved Local Sandwich Shops

Full Belly Deli

This sandwich spot has been operating in Reno Tahoe for almost two decades and has been filling our bellies since it first opened in Truckee. Now, there are two locations in Reno, as well as the flagship store in Truckee. Full Belly Deli makes delicious hot and cold sandwiches with 12 different freshly baked bread options and 15 different proteins. Their menu features a weekly special unique to each location, but even their permanent menu has some crazy combinations like a Doritos-crusted chicken thigh sandwich. Head to their MidTown or Mill Street location to check out what their special is this week–or, try both!

Yosh’s Unique Deli

Yosh’s Unique Deli is a local, family-owned sandwich shop where they believe in quality, fresh ingredients. Yosh’s Unique Deli’s amazing flavor is rooted in their commitment to homemade taste: they smoke all their own meats, bake all their breads, and partner with the community to only use locally sourced ingredients. They’re also committed to searching for the best flavor combinations ever and testing new ingredients and fresh-baked bread flavors each week in their weekly special.

Paolo’s Deli

Paolo’s is an old school Italian deli located near the convention center, serving up sandwiches with imported Italian meats and cheeses like mortadella, salami and mozzarella to keep their authentic Italian flavor. Try their signature sandwich, the “Italian Stallion” piled high with porchetta and salami, and find out for yourself why this locally owned deli is a favorite for Italian-style deli sandwiches.

The Urban Deli

Another locally owned favorite spot to satisfy your cold cut craving is The Urban Deli, a delicatessen in South Reno. The Urban Deli serves delicious sandwiches named after iconic Reno streets like The Virginia and The Kietzke, all served on fresh-baked bread from Truckee Sourdough Company, another local favorite.

Michael’s Deli

This New York-style deli brings a taste of the big city to the Biggest Little City in its two locations on South Virginia Street and South Meadows Parkway. Michael’s Deli is a long-time Reno favorite with classic sandwiches, paninis and wraps. Though their menu is simple, their flavors are bold and classic, with daily specials at each location for breakfast and lunch.

Pub N’ Sub

With over 30 hot and cold sandwich options and plenty of beer to go around, Pub N’ Sub has been a cornerstone of the Reno community since it opened in 1974 in a quaint neighborhood in Northwest Reno. You can find locals catching a Nevada Wolfpack away game at Pub N Sub for one of their iconic Nevada watch parties while munching on some of the best sandwiches in the city.

Rubicon Deli

If you’re all about a good bread selection, then you’re going to love the choices at Rubicon Deli. With the option to order half or whole sandwiches, as well as a variety of hot and cold options, there’s something for every appetite at Rubicon. On a chilly day, the Dapper Dipper is just what you need to warm up, or if you’re grabbing something for a picnic along the river on a summer day, the Crandie is a local fave.

The Cheese Board

A local hotspot for lunch, plan to get here a little before or after the lunch rush if you want to grab a table, or get something to go and enjoy it at one of the nearby parks. The Cheese Board’s menu includes delicious hot and cold sandwiches (we recommend the Turkey Focaccia or Chicken Salad Croissant), as well as the option to create your own sammie. And if you’re grabbing lunch with a little one, their Kids Menu has more than just your basic chicken nugget options.

Süp

A MidTown original, soup and sandwich lovers know the coziest spot with the freshest ingredients is Süp. Their menu is filled with classics like Grilled Cheese and a Tuna Melt, as well as house-made favorites like the Melty BLAT and Char-Grilled Steak Baquette. Pair any of their sandwiches with one of their made-from-scratch soups that rotate daily, for a filling lunch or dinner.

Regional Favorites

While our locally owned favorites are sure to steal the spotlight, we’re also home to some great regional chains that are worth a try.

Ike’s Love & Sandwiches

Nevada is one of seven lucky states where Ike’s Love and Sandwiches resides. With tons of combinations and two Virginia Street locations, Ike’s is a crowd pleaser through and through, with vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The Sandwich Spot

Another regional favorite is The Sandwich Spot with a special Reno menu made to honor us with sandwiches like The Wolf Pack, The Grandest Sierra and The Tahoe.
