The Biggest Little Steampunk Expo

Wilbur D. May Museum
July 19, 2014 -July 20, 2014

High Desert Steam (HDS) and the Wilbur D. May Museum present the 3rd Annual Biggest Little Steampunk Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at Rancho San Rafael Park, Reno. The Steampunk Expo is the highlight of several Steampunk related activities the weekend of July 19-20.

The Steampunk Expo will include vendors, workshops, panels, contra dancing and Steampunk art. Activities at the event will include games, raffles, and a silent auction. A variety of food truck vendors will serve Expo participants throughout the day.

Following the Expo, themed-crawl organizer Lets Do Things (in conjunction with HDS and the City of Reno) presents the inaugural “Steam Tavern Stroll,” a historical-focused old-timey crawl starting at 8 p.m. at selected bars along California Avenue.

On Sunday morning, HDS members will meet for brunch followed by a Steam Invasion of the Great Basin Costume Society “Wearing History” Exhibit. Both the brunch and the exhibit are close to downtown Reno. The brunch will begin at 10 a.m., at Daughter’s Café, 98 Bell Street. The Steam Invasion of the Exhibit will begin at noon at the A An Art Gallery, which occupies the north building of the old bus station located on the southwest corner of 4th and Center Streets, across from the National Bowling Stadium.

HDS has reserved a block of rooms at the Silver Legacy Hotel/Casino with a special price. Call 800-687-8733 before June 18th, code TTHDS.

HDS is a costume-enthusiast organization based in Northern Nevada that produces the annual “Greatest Little Steampunk Expo” in Reno, the annual “Steampunk Victorian Ball” in Virginia City, an annual “Yulesteam” Christmas Party in Reno, holds bi-monthly meetings at changing locations, and participates in community events such as parades and historical-themed festivals. Costumes are admired but never required.
