Chinese New Year
Eldorado Hotel Casino January 31, 2014 - February 6, 2014
The Eldorado Hotel Casino is busy preparing dozens of authentic Chinese specialty dishes to help ring in the Chinese New Year. Look for traditional Chinese specialties in The Buffet from January 31 - Feburary 6 and the magnificent White Crane Lion Dances February 15 - 17 in honor of the Year of the Horse.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the new year begins on January 31 and marks the transition from the Year of the Sanke to the Year of the Horse. While the Year of the Snake was said to be marked by prosperity, gracious morality and great wisdom, the Year of the Horse is considered a fortunate year that brings luck and good things.
To usher in the Year of the Horse, The Buffet will serve dozens of ever changing appetizers, side dishes and entrees plus Chinese crispy roast pig every night. Some of the dishes planned include clams with black bean sauce, Thai hot and sour head-on shrimp, roast duck, cashew chicken, steamed mussels with ginger sauce, wok braised crab, Peking pork chop, Mongolian beef and more.
Each buffet guest will receive Lei See, a Chinese tradition of lucky money. Friday, January 31 and Saturday February 1 guests can enjoy the Chinese New Year buffet for $24.99 per adult and $12.99 per child 10 and under. Eldorado Gold Card members and above dine for only $19.99. Sunday, February 2 through Thursday, February 6 adults dine for only $18.99, kids under 10 for just $8.99 and Eldorado Gold Club members and above for just $13.99.
The Chinese Lion Dance has been an integral element of Chinese culture for over a thousand years and a beloved part of the New Year festivities. February 15-17, the White Crane Lion Dancers will begin on the mezzanine and wind their way through the casino for all to see. Saturday performances will begin at 2, 5, 8 and 11 p.m. Sunday dances will be seen at 1, 4, 7 and 10 p.m. with Monday dances at 1 p.m. A Chinese concert starring Leo Ku will be held on February 16 at the Downtown Reno Ballroom at 8 p.m.
Honor the Year of the Horse and enjoy Leo Ku in concert, the brilliant White Crane Lion Dances and authentic Chinese dishes prepared by the Eldorado’s expert chefs.
