Arts & Culture

Forget what you think you know about downtown Reno. Far from what you might expect, this is the place to go when it comes to fine art. Reno's Arts District is located along the Truckee River in the beautiful downtown area.

Take a leisurely stroll down the river and stop by several different museums in the area. The Nevada Museum of Art rotates beautiful selections in fine art. You'll also find an eclectic array of galleries, shops, restaurants and coffee houses in the downtown area. If you're in the market for fine art, a trip to Stremmel Gallery is a must for the area's finest in contemporary paintings, drawings, mixed media and sculpture by mid-career and established American and European artists. Take a behind-the-scenes look at local artists and their work with exclusive art tours by Artouring.

Not only can you visit those museums, but why not visit ancient rock art sites that are older than the pyramids in Egypt? Walk the traces of pioneer wagons or wander through Reno's Little Italy with a Historic Reno Preservation Society walking tour? Take a step back in time in historic Virginia City.

Yearly arts culminate each summer with the not-to-be-missed Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in Lake Tahoe and Artown, July's month-long celebration of over 300 events taking place throughout Reno including music, dance, theater, film, visual arts and Chautauqua.
