Behind the Scenes at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center

When you enter the 600,00 square foot Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC), located at the intersection of South Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane in the heart of Reno, you can find any number of events taking place. You may encounter kids (and kids at heart) getting up close and personal with dinosaur exhibits, young athletes participating in a basketball tournament, students walking across the graduation stage, or professionals attending a conference.

With a venue of this scale, the only thing limiting the type of event that can take place within the RSCC walls is the imagination. No matter the magnitude of the event taking place, the Reno Tahoe team’s goal is to execute it efficiently, and to meet or exceed the standards set by the occupying organization. Transforming the halls and meeting rooms to accommodate these events is no small feat, and takes a team… one that works together to achieve these transformations day in and day out, in all four seasons.

Take large-scale volleyball events, for example. Each spring, the NCVA Far Western Tournament, featuring volleyball players from all over the western United States, takes over the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for six days of competition over two consecutive weekends.

To prepare the building for this facility-wide competition, RSCC staff members spend days planning and executing room flips. This includes placing hundreds of chairs, laying tournament-spec floor tiles, hanging flags and banners, creating custom graphics, printing and placing signage, dialing in room temperature and lighting, securing WiFi networks, and much more. When the final whistle of the tournament sounds, the facilities team must swiftly tear down and reset the rooms for the next event occupying those spaces. Our facilities team takes pride in preparing for every event and navigating the challenges that each one poses.

From the yearly Motorsport Auction Group event during Hot August Nights, which features a cavalcade of classic cars up for bid, to the Reno Tahoe International Art Show, which puts hundreds of pieces of art on display, the RSCC team is prepared to adapt Reno Tahoe’s modern facilities to showcase industry offerings and facilitate networking events.
