Tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-reliance and self-expression. In Black Rock City, you won’t be the weirdest kid in the classroom and you’ll become a part of the growing community of Burners who are active year-round.
What is Burning Man?
Burning Man is a practice in community, an annual gathering of 65,000 "Burners" who meet in the Black Rock Desert of Northern Nevada to create art, exchange ideas, and participate in the burning of the Man, a symbol whose meaning is as varied as the attendees themselves.
To truly understand this event, one must participate. However, click here
for eloquent overview of this experimental community, which challenges its members to express and rely on themselves to a degree that is not normally encountered in one's day-to-day life.

2014 Art Theme: Caravansary
This year, Burning Man celebrates the caravansaries of past. For centuries, travelers of the Silk Route crossed these oases and sanctuaries along the 4,000 mile route from Europe to East Asia. These stops not only offered shelter, but were hubs for story-telling, trade, an exchange of ideas, technologies and helped to shape the modern world. The caravansary of Burning Man
will occupy "the crossroads of a dreamland: a bazaar of the bizarre wherein treasures of every sort, from every land and age, flow in and out to be flaunted, lost, exploited and discovered."
