The 2026 Winter Olympics kick off on February 26, and while Reno Tahoe will be cheering on all competitors, there are a few locally-affiliated athletes who have already grabbed our attention.
U.S. Olympic Women
Keely Cashman
A proud member of the Palisades Tahoe Bear Valley Team, Keely Cashman is a strong skier of all disciplines. Her focus for the 2026 Games will be speed, as she competes with the U.S. Alpine Ski Team.
Nina O’Brien
Nina O’Brien got her start on the slopes at Palisades Tahoe where she participated in their Mighty Mite program. She later graduated to be a member of Team Palisades before joining the National Training Group and eventually became an official member to the U.S. Alpine Ski Team in 2016.
AJ Hurt
As a North Lake Tahoe native, AJ Hurt found her passion for skiing early on the slopes of Palisades Tahoe, where she joined the Team Palisades Tahoe at just four years old. She will be competing on the U.S. Alpine Ski Team for 2026.
Abby Winterberger
Born and raised in Truckee, California, Abby Winterberger grew up on the slopes. She began skiing at age 2 and began her competitive career at 6 years old. Now she serves as an ambassador for Sugar Bowl Resort and will going for gold as a freestyle skier at the Milano-Cortina games.
Hannah Norman
Hahna Norman is another Truckee native who has climbed to the top in their sport. Referred to as a rising star in women’s slopestyle and big air snowboarding, Hahna will be competing in Snowboard Pro Slopestyle in Italy for Team USA.
Hanna Percy
At just 18 years old, Hanna is the youngest member of the U.S. Snowboard Cross team. Born in Truckee, CA to pro snowboarder parents, Hanna’s need for speed runs deep. She qualified for the Olympics at the World Cup in Italy this past December.
Lila Lapanja
From Incline Village, Lila is an alpine skiing champ. She found her passion for skiing at Diamond Peak and skied for the Diamond Peak Ski Team before landing a spot on the U.S. Ski Team. While Lila is a U.S. champion, she has been selected to represent Slovenia for the 2026 games.
U.S. Olympic Men
Bryce Bennett
Bryce Bennett began skiing at the age of 2 in Olympic Valley, California. He grew up on the hills of Palisades Tahoe and was first named to the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team in 2011. Bryce has been named to two Olympic teams in his career and will be competing in downhill for Team USA in 2026.
Alessandro Barbieri
Once a member of the Tahoe Select Snowboard Team, Alessandro Barbieri is an up and coming snowboard halfpipe star. He burst onto the scene in 2024 by earning a silver medal at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games and is now a must-watch athlete for the 2026 Milano-Cortina Games.
JC Schoonmaker
With Tahoe City, California as his hometown, JC is no stranger to winter sports. During his career, JC has secured 17 World Cup top 10 results, which have helped earn him a spot on the 2026 U.S. Olympic Cross Country Team in Italy.
