Not Golf Savvy? 5 Reasons You Should Still Go to the Barracuda Championship

Don’t know a birdie from a bogie? If watching athletes tap tiny white balls across Crenshsaw bentgrass into small holes in the ground isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry! There’re plenty of events, venues and entertainment at the Barracuda Championship golf tournament that make it a mainstream, can’t-miss summer event.

1. Finger-licking Barbecue

The Barracuda Championship is just as much about delicious food as it is about hitting the links. Every Barracuda Championship ticket gets attendees onto The Patio on the 18th Green presented by Reno Tahoe, which features the The Great Clubhouse Cookout. Enjoy tasty barbecue, ice-cold drinks and picturesque views. The Patio offers Gus’ Open Pit Barbecue, a Lake Tahoe staple, grilling up grub that will leave your taste buds reeling with joy. Think open pit grilled chicken. Think Santa Maria style trip tip. Think pulled pork with homemade barbecue sauces. Hungry yet?

2. The Party

Don’t be deceived by the delicate golf claps and quiet signs — golfers know how to party. The Patio also features a Jim Beam bar, known for its signature cocktails and lively atmosphere for golf fans and novices alike. William Hill Wine, the official wine of the PGA TOUR, presents four tasting stations throughout the course, giving you plenty of opportunities to drink pinky out. On those hot days, hang out in Tito’s Terrace, presented by your favorite gluten-free vodka, and enjoy the VIP sky box complete with flat screen TVs covering premium tournament action, a live DJ and bar games sure to enhance your own competitive, edge. Party on, Wayne!

3. The Pack Pavilion

Your chance to support Nevada Alumni with an open bar has arrived! The Pack Pavillion presented by Barrick is the place to be Sunday, August 6 at the 2017 Barracuda Championship. Get up close and personal to the PGA TOUR pros on the 9th Green while enjoying a fully hosted bar and VIP views of the action. University of Nevada Alumni are exclusively invited to hang out in the Hospitality Sky Box, where fun for the whole family awaits.

4. Show off your goodie two-shoes.

Did you know in 2016 alone, the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation gave back over $382,000 buckaroos to charities? Which begs the question: how often do you get the chance to rub shoulders with people dressed like Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, all while giving back to the community? By participating you are contributing to a higher quality of life in our community, promoting volunteerism and affecting a positive economic impact to our community. You don’t have to be a golf buff to get behind that!

5. Learn more about golf.

So maybe you don’t know anything about golf…yet. Geek out at The Discovery STEAM Zone sponsored by Circus Circus, a 1,200 square-foot attraction located just off the ninth fairway that teaches the science of golf through science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Visitors are treated to interactive demonstrations, brainteasers, art projects, 3D printers and golf exhibits in The Discovery’s largest off-site activation in the museum’s history.
