A Few Local Favorites

Brewer's Cabinet

A standout brewery in Reno is Brewer's Cabinet, located at the edge of downtown Reno. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy some house-made tater tots paired with one of their signature ‘Tahoe’ brand beers. For a deeper dive into their craft, visit their Production Facility near Mayberry Park—open Thursday through Sunday with $5 drafts, outdoor seating and lawn games. Or swing by the BC Taproom downtown, just steps from the brewpub, with 20 taps, a full kitchen and a shop for branded gear.

Great Basin Brewery

As Nevada’s oldest operating brewery, Great Basin Brewing Company is a cornerstone of the state’s craft beer scene. With locations in Reno and Sparks, this beloved brewery has been serving up award-winning beers since 1993. Their signature Ichthyosaur “Icky” IPA is a must-try, but you’ll also find a rotating lineup of seasonal and experimental brews to keep things interesting. Pair your pint with hearty pub fare like beer-battered fish and chips, burgers, or their famous garlic fries. The Reno location offers a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of indoor and patio seating—perfect for a casual night out or a relaxed weekend lunch.

The Depot

A unique option is The Depot, located in the heart of the Brewery District. The building is a former train depot (hence the name), and it is Nevada’s first combined brewery and distillery. Since coming onto the scene in 2014, The Depot has been a local hotspot known for its hand-crafted brews and adventurous dining menu.

Alibi Ale Works

Alibi Ale Works is a Tahoe brewery that can’t be missed, with locations in Incline Village and Truckee. They pride themselves on using pure Lake Tahoe water to produce an award-winning line-up of balanced brews. The patio at their Public House in Incline Village is what post-adventure refreshment dreams are made of. In the fall, the changing leaves add even more color to the variety of brews on tap. You can grab a growler of your favorite while you are there or find their beer distributed locally.

Pigeon Head Brewery

In the heart of Reno's Brewery District, Pigeon Head is best known for its German-style lagers but pours a variety of brews. Sample their flagship beers and seasonal favorites at the tap room, as they are open daily. The brewery also features a spacious outdoor patio, perfect for relaxing with a pint. Be sure to try their popular Pilsner or Kölsch, along with rotating small-batch releases that highlight their brewing creativity.

Reno Distilleries

From locally-farmed elements to our craft cocktail culture, the Reno Tahoe area provides the perfect ingredients for distilleries to be born and bred. Seven Troughs Distilling Co. is an example of a craft distillery that is standing out with its mid-century process of open fermentation in wooden hogshead barrels. Several other Reno distilleries are also adding local flavor to traditional spirits, such as Yeti Jackalope Gin from Verdi Local Distillery and Biggest Little Bourbon from The Depot.

Area Distilleries

If you are a craft spirit connoisseur or you are just looking to try something new, Nevada has some hidden gems. In Minden, about an hour's drive south of Reno, is the Minden Mill Distilling. Built in a 100-year-old flour mill, this distillery uses grains and materials grown on the ranch to create their spirits. Secondly, located east of Reno on a charming ranch in Fallon, Nevada, you will find a distillery with roots dating back more than a hundred years – Frey Ranch Estate Distillery. If Frey Ranch has you intrigued, they host tours every Saturday afternoon. Just west of Reno, Verdi Local Distillery serves up small-batch, handcrafted spirits in a cozy setting. They are known for their uniquely flavored spirits, such as garlic whiskey, black licorice whiskey, as well as their tasty Bloody Mary mix with just the right amount of kick. They offer cocktails, sampler tastings, and distillery tours during business hours, with the option to book private parties as well.
