Don't rush inside, the building itself is pretty epic. If you're thinking it looks like a black rock, you're on the right track. Designed by architect Will Bruder, the four-level, 60,000 sq. ft. building was inspired by the landscape and unique geological formations of Northern Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. Be sure to appreciate it up close, as the wall is creased and folded with a matte zinc material.
Once you're inside, it's time to reach for the sky! The newly expanded outdoor plaza on the fourth floor offers stunning views of the Sierra Nevada and the surrounding Reno area from every corner you're in. Enjoy it outdoors on the Stacie Mathewson Sky Plaza or within sleek retractable glass doors in the Nightingale Sky Room. Inside and out, the building's design makes it one of the most distinguished architectural achievements in Nevada, right in the heart of downtown Reno.
Groups get the VIP treatment
The Nevada Museum of Art is a great place to bring groups for any occasion. Easily schedule a tour of the museum with a trained docent for groups up to 20 people. The tour includes a choice of viewing the feature exhibition or a detailed look at the Museum’s permanent collection and architecture. Gather your group for a meeting, luncheon, dinner or reception in one of their executive meeting spaces that accommodate up to 75 people including the newly expanded Skyroom. Big plans? You can rent the Museum for you and up to 500 of your closest friends.
Learn something new
Every day is a school day! The Nevada Museum of Art prides itself on its significant arts education programming and isn't afraid to get a little messy. The E.L. Cord Museum School offers art classes for all ages on a year-round schedule including photography, ceramics, and painting. Be sure to check out their Girl's Night Out for a wine-infused class in abstract painting. Each class serves 8-20 students so bring in your group and get creative in one of their classes.

As the only accredited art museum in the state of Nevada, the Nevada Museum of Art joins the ranks of other significant institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The Museum recently debuted Ugo Rondinone's colorful large-scale, public artwork Seven Magic Mountains in the desert outside Las Vegas. The Museum's commission and production of this vibrant installation, recently featured in The New York Times, is an unprecedented move for an art museum. Through its permanent collections and original exhibitions such as Seven Magic Mountains, the Nevada Museum of Art has solidified its place as an art & culture icon for Nevada, and a crown jewel for Reno Tahoe.
