Have you been procrastinating all winter, just waiting for the perfect reason to head out into the snow? Well, wait no longer! The 33rd Annual North Lake Tahoe SnowFest starts this Thursday, Feb. 27 and packs a whole season of fun into just eleven days. One highlight is the infamous Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim on Saturday, March 1, where brave souls venture out into the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe – if only briefly! But no worries, there are plenty of local restaurants and watering holes where you can warm up and even listen to a wide variety of live music.
There’s plenty of activity for the kids as well, including a variety of parades, the Granlibakken’s Gone Bonkers Kids Ski Race on Sunday, March 2, and they are also invited to Paint the Bear at the North Tahoe Arts Center on the Saturday before the race.
Don’t forget to bring your appetite! There’s ice cream eating contests, a pancake breakfast, a pizza party, a Hawaiian-style Luau, the sixth annual Bridgetender Rib Fest and the LUNAFEST film, food and wine event at Squaw Valley on Saturday, March 8.
Along with plenty of great skiing and snowboarding there’s and races and competitions throughout SnowFest, including the Diamond Peak Uphill Downhill Dash on Saturday, March 8th, and the Tahoe Mountain Man Contest at Homewood Mountain Resort Sunday, March 2 is not to be missed!
And that’s just a small sample of all of the happenings at this year’s SnowFest! From sports enthusiasts to artistic types, there is truly something for everyone. For a complete schedule of events go to http://www.tahoesnowfestival.com/#!vstc2=media-menu/vstc1=events
