Check out this month’s 10 most “buzz-worthy” things to see and do in Reno/Sparks/North Lake Tahoe, according to our multi-generational, “What-To-Do Crew”:
French Food in Reno? Oui, oui!
Have a hankering for Croque-Monsieur and pommes frites (that's French talk for a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with French fries)... or tripe? Then head to Beaujolais Bistro, in the Riverwalk District, for a surprisingly enjoyable meal that is almost as good as a trip to Paris... for a fraction of the price.
"The Vault" - A Cool Hangout for Rock Stars
In the basement of the rugged Bizarre Guitar in Sparks, it's not uncommon Santana, Randy Travis, ZZ Top, and other top guitarists are in the midst of a jam session on one of owner/guitarist Greg Golden's 500 specialty guitars; including a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. Any visitor can view his collection and strum a few cords for free - all you have to do is ask!
Reno's Best Burger is... In Sparks!
The Reno Gazette-Journal's reader poll just chose a new king of the burgers: the Monster Burger grilled at Ernie's All American Burger in the Vista Mart gas station in nearby Sparks! Using Texas toast in lieu of buns, Ernie has set a new standard for Northern Nevada burger lovers!
2995 Vista Blvd Sparks, NV 89434
Learn How Jacob Davis Saved Your Butt!
There's a historic plaque on a pedestal outside the Knitting Factory in downtown Reno that deserves a tad more recognition. Would you be surprised to know that those ubiquitous blue pants that Levi Strauss made famous actually got their start in Reno? Thank you Jacob Davis!
211 N Virginia St Reno, NV 89501
Rich in Chocolate
Sierra Nevada Chocolate Co. requires a higher cocoa content than the average chocolate treat - it's worth more than gold! Your taste buds will thank you when you bite into the extra rich, cream-based truffles.
Too Soul Tea
Don't let the teensy shop fool you, Too Soul Tea Co. carries over 100 teas and blends for any tea-lover's liking. Ask for suggestions from the knowledgeable staff, or sample the "tea of the day" to get hooked on a new "regular."
Tune-in and Drive-In
There's something wholesome and charming about tuning into a double feature presentation at the West Wind Drive-In Theater. Overhead, the atmosphere is topped with a star-lit western sky.
Good Friends. Good Wine. Good Cause.
Every month, downtown Reno is swarmed with tasting-hungry winos. The Riverwalk District Wine Walk is escalating in popularity at warp speeds, so arrive early this spring/summer to get first pick of the hand-painted glasses.
Food that's on Fire
Bangkok Cuisine knows Thai hospitality. The spicy sweet and sour papaya salad or peanut sauce is highly recommended, and water-guzzling customers can always expect to have a full glass.
Enjoyable Ongoing Construction
It's no twisted nightmare; The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) recently unveiled a hands-on construction center kids love in the museum's Build It! exhibit. The new center's title asks it all, "What Will You Build?"
