Pablo Picasso: Musical Instruments

Nevada Museum of Art
July 3, 2010 -November 28, 2010

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Celebrate Artown 2010 at the Nevada Museum of Art with Pablo Picasso: Musical Instruments, exclusively on loan to the Museum from July 3 through November 28, 2010. Perhaps the best known Modern artist of the twentieth century, Picasso is recognized for the crucial role he played in the establishment and development of the artistic style known as Cubism. The single-painting exhibition features Picasso’s Musical Instruments and Fruit Bowl on a Pedestal, ahistorically significant work painted in 1913—the same year Picasso’s art was first introduced to American audiences at the Armory Show in New York. The painting epitomizes all of the characteristics for which the Cubist style is best known.

“Artown is a special time of year for residents and visitors in our area,” comments David B. Walker, Executive Director | CEO, Nevada Museum of Art, “and the Museum is thrilled to play a part. It’s the perfect match – Pablo Picasso’s unique style of art in conjunction with the uniqueness of Artown.”
A number of events have been scheduled at the Museum to coincide with Artown including Artown Tours each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 1:30 pm; a live piano concert featuring Ron Williams on Sunday, July 11 at 1 pm; and a special talk  in partnership with Black Rock Design Institute featuring Design Principal Ron Radziner of Marmol Radziner Architecture Thursday, July 15 at 6pm.
Pablo Picasso: Musical Instruments will be exhibited July 3 through November 28 at the Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, E. L. Wiegand Gallery located at 160 West Liberty Street in downtown Reno. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday. Cost: Museum members free; $10 adults; $8 students/seniors; $1 children 6 – 12; free for children five and under. Museum Membership starts at just $25.
