Reno Tahoe Arts and Culture

Arts & Culture

Forget what you think you know about downtown Reno. Far from what you might expect, this is the place to go when it comes to fine art. Reno's Arts District is located along the Truckee River in the beautiful downtown area.

Take a leisurely stroll down the river and stop by several different museums in the area. The Nevada Museum of Art rotates beautiful selections in fine art. Committed to extend the excellence of the University of Nevada, Reno, University Galleries collects, conserves, exhibits, and shares art research with the understanding that both our cultural heritage and our future belong to the publics we serve. University Galleries (right) offers regularly scheduled programming and events co-hosted with other campus departments and local organizations. Exhibitions rotate frequently.

If you're in the market for fine art, a trip to Stremmel Gallery is a must for the area's finest in contemporary paintings, drawings, mixed media and sculpture by mid-career and established American and European artists.

Celebrating all of the city’s art, from fine to quirky, 365 days a year, Art Spot Reno is a company that supports local arts and businesses by integrating them with the community in many ways. They provide a comprehensive calendar for arts events, coordinate the monthly art walk event and raise awareness of Reno’s art scene through a blog. Additionally, they facilitate workshops, lectures and special events.

Reno is poised to be a culturally vibrant city and a true arts destination - Reno is the SPOT for year-round art. More Art Everywhere!

Not only can you visit those museums, but why not visit ancient rock art sites that are older than the pyramids in Egypt? Walk the traces of pioneer wagons or wander through Reno's Little Italy with a Historic Reno Preservation Society walking tour? Take a step back in time in historic Virginia City.

Yearly arts culminate each summer with the not-to-be-missed Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival in Lake Tahoe and Artown, July's month-long celebration of over 400 events taking place throughout Reno including music, dance, theater, film and visual arts.

Arts4nevada.org is a virtual online community and network created to: promote Nevada’s rich and varied arts and cultural industry, provide resources for those in the arts, and those wanting to experience the arts, and serve as Nevada’s advocacy center.
