Ways to Spend Your Memorial Day Weekend in Reno Tahoe

Even though it is technically still spring, Memorial Day weekend always feels like a kickoff to summer. It wouldn’t be the same without a little sun, BBQ and making memories with family and friends. Whether enjoying a long weekend or trying to make the most of the usual two-day break, Reno Tahoe has just the ticket to creating an epic weekend.

Honor the Fallen

First and foremost, Memorial Day is a holiday to remember those who lost their lives fighting for our country. Nearby Virginia City is host to the Celebration of Heroes parade in downtown on Saturday, May 25 and A Tribute to Heroes concert on Sunday, May 26 at Piper’s Opera House. While you’re there, explore antique shops, take an old time photo and mingle with the characters of this historic mining town.

Ride the Rails

Take a trip from Carson City to Virginia City on the V&T Railroad, which starts its season Memorial Day weekend with trains departing on both Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. This steam train is a fun and unique way to see the incredible Virginia Range scenery and learn more about the history of the area.

Sun and Sand

How does a day at the beach and a night at an award-winning hotel casino sound? This is just one of the many perks to visiting our neck of the woods. Lake Tahoe is less than an hour drive from downtown Reno and one of the hottest spots to visit over the holiday weekend. Popular beaches include Sand Harbor, North Tahoe Beach and Kings Beach for a good time with friends and family. Try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking, or just kick back and relax in the sun.

Arts, Culture and Entertainment

If a concert or comedy is what you’re seeking for your long weekend, there are a variety of great acts heading to Reno for the last weekend of May.

Arnel Pineda, the new lead singer of Journey, is on his 2019 North American Tour and will be performing at the Grande Exposition Hall inside Silver Legacy on Sunday, May 26. The famous duo from Hong Kong, So Man, will treat audiences to an amazing performance at the Reno Ballroom on Sunday, May 26.

If you’re looking for a night filled with laughs, catch Jorge Falcon at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts on Friday, May 24 or Anthony K at the Pioneer Underground, May 24 and 25.

The Ultimate Summer Pastime

Nothing feels like summer quite like a day at the ballpark watching America’s pastime. The Reno Aces have a home stand against the Las Vegas Aviators over Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy special promotions each night, including a hat giveaway, Military Monday and Bonanza Baseball Bingo. Bring the family to Greater Nevada Field and cheer on the home team!

Bring Your Appetite

In addition to Reno’s wide variety of restaurants and breweries – a mix of new hot spots and long-time favorites – there are also special food and drink events to satisfy any palate. For those craving variety, bring your appetite and get ready to sample culinary delights from more than 30 gourmet food trucks at Reno Street Food – Food Truck Friday at Idlewild Park on Friday, May 24.

Satisfy your senses at the Cuisine, Corks & Crafts Festival at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26. The festival is free to attend and includes culinary vendors, arts and crafts, mixologists, cooking demonstrations, entertainment and more. Tickets are also available for the Celebrity Chef performances, Battle Born Best Chef Competition and Wine & Spirits Walks.
