Drive time Las Vegas to Reno

If you’re planning a road trip from Las Vegas to Reno on Highway 95, which is the fastest route, expect the road trip to take around seven hours with no stops. If you’re planning to stop at a few of our recommended locations, plan anywhere between 10 hours to an additional day to fit in your sightseeing at a comfortable pace.

Highway 95 Nevada Attractions

Ready to hit the road? Head north on Highway 95 from Las Vegas. Expect to see lots of open road and desert, but don’t let the terrain fool you. There are plenty of unexpected sites to see on this drive through the heart of Nevada and on your way to Reno Tahoe.

Beatty

First stop, Beatty. Beatty is one of the few small towns along U.S. 95, located about two hours north of Las Vegas. Take a break and stretch your legs here, fill up your gas tank or visit Death Valley Nut & Candy Co. A quaint shop located right on Highway 95, Death Valley Nut & Candy Co. offers a variety of treats, including candy and snacks. Don’t forget to stop at Jed’s Jerky to pick up some mouth-watering savory snacks!

Goldwell Open Air Museum

Take a short detour 10 minutes west of Beatty and discover the Goldwell Open Air Museum, an outdoor sculpture park in the middle of the desert. See several awe-inspiring sculpture pieces, including the haunting rendition of The Last Supper.

Goldfield Hotel

Driving from Las Vegas to Reno has several one-of-a-kind stops along the way, and Goldfield Hotel is definitely the spookiest. A must-see attraction for ghost hunters and campfire story fans alike, peer through the dusty windows of this abandoned hotel, and you may see something that you can’t explain.

Reportedly one of the most haunted locations in the state, if not the country, the Goldfield Hotel is located about one hour north of Beatty and about three hours north of Las Vegas. Don’t miss this monument to Nevada’s history.

Tonopah

Need a rest stop? Take a break in Tonopah. Fill up your gas tank and grab some snacks or stay the night at the famous (and slightly creepy) Clown Motel or the reportedly haunted Mitzpah Hotel if you’re feeling up to the adventure.

If you’re just passing through, look for the murals in downtown Tonopah as you’re driving through town.

What to Do in the Biggest Little City

From Tonopah, you’ll head north for another four hours and arrive in Reno, the Biggest Little City in the World. There is tons to do, see and eat in Reno!

Reno Riverwalk District

Stretch your legs after your drive and explore the Reno Riverwalk District. Take a stroll along the Truckee River, or refuel with a cup of coffee from Hub Coffee Roasters. Keep an eye out for the sculptures located along the river at Bicentennial Park and City Plaza, and grab a bite to eat at one of the several restaurants and bars located in the Reno Riverwalk District.

National Automobile Museum

If the drive from Las Vegas to Reno left you feeling inspired to learn more about car culture, visit the National Automobile Museum. This historic museum, located in downtown Reno, allows you to marvel at more than 200 unique and eye-catching cars.

Nevada Museum of Art

While you are here, you can immerse yourself in quiet contemplation at the Nevada Museum of Art. Here you can see compelling exhibitions from renowned artists and shop for unique finds at the gift shop.

Lake Tahoe

Located only 45 minutes from Reno, Lake Tahoe is a must-visit place and can easily be planned as a day trip. Visit one of the many beaches around Lake Tahoe, including Kings Beach, Sand Harbor and Commons Beach.

Treat yourself to a beach day in the sun and sand or experience incredible alpine views on one of the many hiking trails along and around the lake. Stop for lunch in Incline Village or Tahoe City, or experience all 72 miles of beautiful shoreline by driving around Lake Tahoe.
