Recognized as a favorite stop among golf professionals, the Barracuda Championship PGA TOUR event takes place each summer. Starting in 2020, the tournament will take place at beautiful Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood golf course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this signature golf course is located on 600 acres of lush forest and surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Previously known as the Reno-Tahoe Open, the Barracuda Championship is operated by the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and has been in the Reno area since its founding in 1999. This tournament has a field of 132 players and is played opposite the WGC-Bridgestone tournament. Don’t miss this opportunity to see renowned PGA TOUR players tackle this stunning golf course. Past competitors have included popular golfers such as Jason Day, Adam Scott, Pat Perez, Geoff Ogilvy (2014 winner), Gary Woodland (2013 winner), John Daly, Padraig Harrington, Davis Love III, Nick Watney, Jon Rahm and J.J. Henry (2012 and 2015 winner).
The Barracuda Championship is the only tournament on the PGA TOUR offering the Modified Stableford playing format. This exciting format rewards players with higher scores and encourages the professionals to shoot for the pin, creating more excitement for spectators. Rather than using traditional stroke play, this format assigns points for number of strokes taken with par being zero points, birdie being 2 points and a bogey being -1 and on from there. Players compete for a $3.4 million purse and 300 FedExCup points, so you will see them play unlike they have ever played before.
