Reno Redefines Jazz
The 52nd Reno Jazz Festival begins this Thursday, April 10 until Saturday, April 12. Throughout the day, schools from all over the nation will perform in front of judges at various locations around the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
On Thursday night, trumpeter Avishai Cohen will play at Nightingale Concert Hall at 7:30 PM. Straight out of Tel Aviv, Israel, Cohen has made a name for himself in the world of 21st century jazz. The New York Times has declared, “Cohen is a multicultural jazz musician, among whose ancestors is Miles Davis. Like Davis, he can make the trumpet a vehicle for uttering the most poignant human cries.” check out his website, www.avishaicohenmusic.com to hear his stuff!
Friday night, at 7:30PM at Lawlor Events Center, UNR invites Kneebody: a genre defying super band complete with drum, guitar, bass, sax, and trumpet. They have been described as electric jazz, but they don’t subscribe to any one genre. To learn more about Kneebody, check out this interactive YouTube video.
