2014 NBA D-LEAGUE SHOWCASE SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
The schedule for the five-day, 17-game NBA Development League Showcase, which features all 17 NBA D-League teams competing between Jan. 5-9, 2014, was released today by the league. The 10th annual event, hosted for the third-consecutive season by the Reno Bighorns and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, will take place at the Reno Event Center in Reno, Nev., home of the NBA D-League’s Bighorns.
Action tips off with two games on Sunday, Jan. 5, with the Delaware 87ers taking on the hosting Bighorns at 5:30 p.m. ET and the Bakersfield Jam facing the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 8:15 p.m. ET. The schedule continues with four games on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with action commencing at 1:00 p.m. ET each day. The event concludes with a three-game slate on Thursday, with the Springfield Armor and Iowa Energy playing the winter classic’s final game beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET (see full schedule attached).
“We’re thrilled to be returning to Reno for this year’s NBA D-League Showcase,” said Chris Alpert, NBA D-League Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel. “The Bighorns and the RSCVA have done an incredible job over the last two seasons providing the NBA D-League with an excellent venue for our players to demonstrate their skills in front of NBA Scouts, and we’re looking forward to another successful week at the Event Center.”
Conceived prior to the 2004-05 season, the NBA D-League Showcase provides an opportunity for NBA D-League players and coaches to perform in front of key NBA decision makers over five consecutive days at one location. The City of Reno will play host to basketball operations executives from all 30 NBA teams who will attend games scouting top young NBA prospects.
Fans can buy tickets by visiting www.ticketmaster.com/renobighorns. Once there, they can click on January and click on the Showcase date they would like to attend. Fans can also call the Bighorns front office directly at (775) 853-8220.
“The Showcase is one of the highlights of the many sporting events held throughout the year in Reno Tahoe USA,” said Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Christopher Baum. “We’re delighted to welcome the NBA D-League back to the region once again as a fun activity for our visitors and residents.”
“The return of the NBA Development League Showcase to Reno for a record three years in a row establishes our community as a NBA destination,” said Bighorns owner Herb Santos, Jr. “Our resorts, our restaurants, our hospitality, our world class ski resorts, and everything else that Reno Tahoe has to offer will be showcased once again globally by the NBA. When it comes to high caliber, professional basketball, Reno is on the map!”
During and immediately following last year’s event, four players earned GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA, including eventual NBA champion Jarvis Varnado of the Miami Heat. During its nine-year history, more than 30 NBA D-League players have earned GATORADE Call-Ups from the NBA D-League to the NBA during or immediately after the NBA D-League Showcase; while an even larger number benefited from the exposure afforded them at the NBA D-League Showcase.
