The Reno Sparks SCHEELS features a fully refurbished 1921 Ferris Wheel. This 16-car amusement part ride is INSIDE the store and stands at 65-feet tall making this the largest Ferris Wheel in SCHEELS’ history.
The Ferris Wheel was invented in 1893 by George Washington Ferris, Jr., who just happened to have lived in Carson City, NV for a portion of his life. As a tribute to George Ferris, SCHEELS has created a Ferris Wheel museum. The museum is located on the first floor by the north registers.

The Reno Sparks SCHEELS features two 16,000 gallon aquariums, which is roughly the size of a normal swimming pool. In order to keep the fish healthy, SCHEELS filters 75,000 gallons of water per hour through both aquariums.
The freshwater aquarium contains only freshwater fish that can be found in the state of Nevada. If you look closely, you’ll notice that no trout are living in SCHEELS. This is because Trout need to live in water than is less than 50 degrees, and in order for the other fish in the freshwater aquarium to survive, the water cannot be that cold. Some examples of freshwater fish that you will see are: catfish, sturgeon, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, blue gill, crappie, and red & green sunfish.
The saltwater aquarium contains only saltwater fish and is home to fish that can be found in tropical/warm oceans. Look closely and you will see four rare Hawaiian Black Trigger fish. In fact, only 12 of the Hawaiian Black Trigger fish are released from the wild each year, and the Reno Sparks SCHEELS was lucky enough to give four of them a home. The saltwater aquarium also features the State Fish of Hawaii (Humuhumunukunukuapua'a) as well as 5 sharks, 3 sting rays, and a beautiful coral structure that make the many other numerous saltwater fish feel like they are at home.

SCHEELS was established in 1902 when Fred Scheel opened the very first SCHEELS Hardware store using money he’d earned from growing 300 acres of potatoes. In the last 107 years, SCHEELS has expanded its business and now resides in 8 different states with its 23 stores. Only one Hardware Store is still in existence and is located in Fargo, ND. Over the years, SCHEELS has evolved into a retail store that offers more than just merchandise. In fact, “Our goal is to be the best retailer in the USA in the eyes and mind of our customer."
