You will ride on an all-terrain quad or in an all-terrain buggy.Location: RenoPhone: 775-323-8928 or 866-323-8928Web: http://www.atvreno.come-mail: info@wildsierra.comOther popular off-road playgrounds: Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area BLM, Winnemucca Field Office, 775-623-1500 This silt palaya 100 miles north of Reno encompasses more than 300,000 acres of land and contains more than 120 miles of historic trails. Expect to see plenty of flat desert terrain, wildlife, or, in the fall, the exotically dressed participants of the Burning Man Festival. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, food, and gasoline; the landscape is harsh. Also, during rain, the playa can become extremely sticky, bogging down four-wheel-drive vehicles. Some areas of the Black Rock are environmentally sensitive and closed to off-roaders. Directions: Access to the Black Rock Desert begins about 100 miles north of Reno. Take I-80 to State Route 447 to Gerlach. Hunter Lake Trail Humboldt-Toiyable National Forest, Carson Ranger District, 775-882-2766, www.fs.fed.us/htnf This is a 30-mile loop that takes you from Boomtown, up and over a portion of the Toiyabe National Forest. Total elevation gain is /-3,500 vertical feet. The ride is a combination of maintained fire roads with a descent on a very rugged (barely passable) road with some big, fast hits. The route takes you past Big Meadow to Hunter Lake, then down to Reno. Peavine Mountain Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Carson Ranger District, 775-882-2766 Numerous trails cover this high-desert terrain, which is a popular spot for Reno OHVers, especially since the trails are easily accessible to the city limits. Directions: Peavine trails are located off North Virginia Street (paralleling U.S. 395), 6 miles north of downtown Reno. For more information about off-road recreational opportunities in Nevada contact the Nevada BLM State Office at 775-861-6500 or visit the BLM's Web site at http://www.nv.blm.gov/.</description>
