Reno Celtic Celebration
Bartley Ranch Regional Park October 6, 2012 - October 7, 2012
Delight in Celtic activities and performances for all ages; including, pipe bands, Scottish and Irish dancers, Celtic musicians, Highland athletic demonstrations, Celtic critters at the animal village, kid’s games, food and drink and Celtic merchandise.
Dancing is such a vital part of Celtic heritage, the Reno Celtic Celebration devotes an entire stage to the display and exhibition of this graceful and controlled testament of the vivaciousness of Celtic Heritage.
The Heritage portion of teh Festival is unique and lots of fun! Take the best aspects of the Faire and bring them to Bartley Ranch and we have our very own Celtic Heritage area! Like a village out of the Middle Ages, we explore weaving, swordplay, costuming, have a falconer join us, and everyone has an amazing time!
The Reno Celtic Celebration is very honored this year to welcome two great bands.
Tempest is a Celtic rock band based in Oakland, California. Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 24 years have seen Tempest release fifteen critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,000 gigs. Tempest is regularly featured at prestigious festivals including The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Denmark’s Skagen Festival, Britain’s Cropredy Festival and The Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada and countless American Celtic festivals. Tempest plays at 1:45 pm and 3:30 pm on Saturday and 1:45 pm and 3:45 pm on Sunday.
Molly’s Revenge is a dynamic, acoustic Celtic band known for its unique and infectious enthusiasm. The classic combination of bagpipes, whistle, and fiddle, with a backdrop of guitar, mandola, and bodhran guarantees an enjoyable experience for all fans of Scottish and Irish music. Molly’s Revenge has performed at many of the top folk festivals and performing arts events in the USA, and prestigious events in Scotland, Australia and China. Their arrangements of traditional Celtic jigs and reels bring these dance tunes up to date with a driving, hard-edged accent that always leaves audiences shouting for more. Molly’s Revenge plays 11:30 am and 2:30 pm Saturday and 11:45 am and 2:45 pm Sunday.
The bagpipes represent Celtic heritage like few things can. A rich part of our history, the Reno Celtic Celebration enjoys hosting pipe bands and solo pipers. Pipe bands confirmed for the 2012 event are the 3 and 4 Grade bands from the City of Sacramento Pipe Band and Reno’s own Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band.
