Real Love Stories from Reno-Sparks/Lake Tahoe

Dottie & Len
December of 1941 my father was stationed at Camp Roberts California and my mother was visiting her parents in Sacremento. Dad was heading home on leave in Kansas and Mom was returning to Idaho when they meet on a bus going to Reno. There was a two hour lay over and they had coffee together and talked. They got back on the bus and rode as far as Wells were Mom changed for a bus to Twin Falls. They exchanged addresses. A few days later Pearl Harbor happened. They exchanged letters and a few months latter Mom moved to Sacremento to be close to Dad.

On Aug 1st, 1942 they returned to Reno to be married, (they had to wait until pay day on the 1st of the month). They were married at the Reno court house and I have a picture of them on the court house steps. On July 27 we are bring my parents to Reno and staying at the Pepermill to celebrate their 60th anniversary on Aug I. Dad is 82 and Mom 81 and they have been happily married for 60 years. I want duplicate the picture of them on the courthouse steps.

Josh & Amy
On June 17th 2000, Amy and I got married. We had a beautiful wedding in the garden behind the Ranch House at Rancho San Rafael Park. The flowers we took our oath in front of were in full bloom and the grass was as green as the sky blue. Rancho San Rafael is located close to downtown and even closer to the university. However, being in such a large park on such a magnificent day put us in a world far away.

We got engaged the previous year at the Silver Legacy. It was Valentines Day and I surprised Amy with dinner at Bistro Roxy in the Eldorado, a night at the Silver Legacy and a diamond engagement ring. Let me tell you...she was surprised.

When September hit, we camped out in front of the offices to get our spot at Rancho San Rafael. We got there at about four in the morning and we weren't even the first ones in line. Rancho San Rafael is a popular place to get married in the summer and if you have a certain date in mind, you need to get there early. Luckily, we got the date we wanted.

It was worth the early morning too. Everything was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better weather - except it did get a little warm standing in a black wool tuxedo. Reno has been very special for us. We met here, got engaged here and married here. We wouldn't trade it for any other place.
