Reno River Festival Clinic Descriptions and Prerequisites
-
Never Ever – Introduction to whitewater kayaking. Learn kayak nomenclature,
equipment requirements, safety procedures, and basic skills needed to start your kayaking career.

Prerequisites – Smiles and good spirits.

Rolling and Bracing – Practice and development of stabilization techniques. Includes the
fundamentals of bracing progressing into the Eskimo roll.

Prerequisites – A basic understanding of stabilization techniques, basic skills, and safety. Flat water experience required.

Eddy Line Techniques – Introduction and development of essential river maneuvers. This clinic will focus on peel outs, eddy turns, S-turns, and ferrying.

Prerequisites – Knowledge of basic skills and kayaking safety procedures. Stabilization and flat water experience required.

Kayaking for Individuals who are Mobility Impaired – An adaptive whitewater session for individuals who are mobility impaired. Please inquire at clinic tent.

Intro to Play Boating – Introduction to freestyle techniques and maneuvers. Learn and practice moves such as squirts, nose stands, flat spins, and front surfing.

Prerequisites – Paddling experience and a comfortable and consistent roll.

Slalom Basics – Introduction to efficient river running techniques. Learn and practice forward strokes, draw strokes, C-strokes, ferrying, and eddy turns.

Prerequisites – Paddling nomenclature, a confident roll, basic skills and paddling experience.

River Run – Practice and development of river running skills such as river reading and scouting.

Prerequisites – Understanding and experience with river maneuvers, stabilization techniques, and safety procedures. Participants must first qualify in the River Run Prerequisite clinic on Saturday.

Intermediate Play Boating – Practice and perfection of intermediate freestyle techniques and maneuvers. Develop the skills to become a confident and competent playboater.

Prerequisites – Previous play boating skills and experience.

Advanced Techniques – First hand experience of some of the most advanced moves in kayaking. Learn the practice the techniques performed by superstar kayakers.

Prerequisites – Strong paddling skills and experience. No novices please.

Advanced Slalom – Development of more advanced slalom paddling techniques. Practice power and corrective strokes as well as eddy hopping, ferrying, etc.

Prerequisites – Well developed paddling skills and experience as well as understanding of slalom basics.
