Have you always wanted to learn how to kayak? Are you a confident play boater looking to take your techniques to the next level? Enroll in one of the Reno River Festival's clinics, offered by certified instructors from Different Strokes Kayaking, and learn from the most talented athletes in the industry! You can register for these clinics on-site at the Reno River Festival. Reno River Festival ClinicDescriptions and Prerequisites

Note: Kayak 100 level courses are structured as aprogression.

 

  • Kayak 101- Introduction to whitewater kayaking. Learn kayak nomenclature, equipment requirements, safety procedures, self-rescue techniques, and basic skills needed to start your kayaking career.
    • -Prerequisites— Smiles and good spirits.

 

  • Kayak 102- Development of the essential river safety, self-rescue, and basic technique. This clinic will focus on river features, wet exits, and stroke fundamentals.
    • -Prerequisites— Whitewater 101 or and understanding of river safety, self-rescue, and basic technique.
  • Kayak 103- Development of river maneuvers and techniques. This clinic will involve a more in depth look at river features and practice of stabilization, strokes, and swift-water maneuvers.
    • -Prerequisites— Kayak 102 and/or whitewater kayaking background which includes an understanding of stabilization techniques, stokes and techniques, and river safety. Flat-water experience required.
  • Roll Session- Practice and perfection of the Eskimo roll. Develop the most important technique in whitewater kayaking, the Eskimo roll.
    • -Prerequisites—Whitewater kayaking background which includes an understanding of stabilization techniques, basic stokes and techniques, river safety, and self-rescue. Flat-water and self-rescue experience required.

 

  • Kayaking for Individuals who are Mobility Impaired- An adaptive whitewater session for individuals who are mobility impaired. Please inquire at clinic tent.

 

  • Intro to Playboating- Introduction to freestyle techniques and maneuvers. Learn and practice moves such as squirts, nose stands, flat spins, and front surfing.
    • -Prerequisites— Whitewater paddling experience and a comfortable and consistent roll.

 

  • Intro to Slalom- Introduction to efficient river running techniques. Learn and practice forward strokes, draw strokes, C-strokes, ferrying, and eddy turns.
    • -Prerequisites— Paddling nomenclature, a confident roll, basic skills and paddling experience.

 

  • Advanced Techniques- First hand experience of some of the most advanced moves in kayaking. Learn the practice the techniques performed by superstar kayakers.
    • -Prerequisites—Strong paddling skills and experience. No novices please.

 

  • Women’s Clinic- Strictly for the Ladies. This clinic will be paced off the abilities of the participants. Please see Prerequisites.

·        - Prerequisites--- Participants shouldhave some previous experience in a kayak. Please see the Whitewater 101 and 102clinics.

 

  • Youth’s Clinic- An experience that could change lives. Taught by the very best in the business, this eye opening experience is a great opportunity for youngsters to get into the water. No previous experience required.
