            <description>Kicking off the competition schedule at the inaugural Reno River Festival, northern Nevada&amp;Acirc;&amp;#039;s official grand opening of the new Truckee River Whitewater Park, is a Boater Cross event designed for amateur kayakers to take to the water for the ultimate city-style race.   Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 15, 2004, non-professional kayakers will be timed during a preliminary race down the river with the top 32 finishers advancing to a Sunday, May 16 final round.   Winner of the final heat will receive a $250 cash prize.</description>

            <title>New Whitewater Kayak Park Opens in Downtown Reno</title>

            <description>There is a new outdoor attraction in Reno-Tahoe, America&amp;Acirc;&amp;#039;s Adventure Place, that is getting sporting enthusiasts in the mood for adventure&amp;Acirc;-a $1.5 million whitewater and kayak park, Nevada&amp;Acirc;&amp;#039;s first kayak slalom racing course.  The kayak park, located on the Truckee River in the heart of Reno&amp;Acirc;&amp;#039;s bustling downtown hotel-casino and booming arts district, completed construction in November and is already attracting attention and participants to the water that started flowing in mid-September.  The park is scheduled for its official grand opening in Spring 2004.</description>

            <title>Reno Engineering Firm Wins Award for Truckee River Whitewater Park</title>

            <description>Kennedy/Jenks Consultants with offices in both Reno and Las Vegas has won an honor award for their design of the Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield for the City of Reno.  The park has 11 different whitewater features and is the largest, most sophisticated whitewater park in the Western US.  The project improved public health and safety by removing vertical concrete walls an replacing them with rock terraced bank access.  Design and construction of the complex park required application of exacting engineering specifications to accurately place 6 foot diameter, 7 ton boulders.</description>
