RENO TAHOE USA UPGRADES TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF THE 21ST CENTURY MEETINGS INDUSTRY

RENO, Nev. (January 13, 2014) — With 11 major hotels of up to 2,000 rooms, Reno Tahoe USA has the quantity, as well as the constantly improving quality, needed to make your next event a success. With multiple dining options, nightly entertainment and copious meeting venues, most Reno Tahoe hotels have the inventory you need to keep attendees engaged, educated and entertained all under one roof. And it’s only getting better.

The historic Cal Neva Resort at North Lake Tahoe, once owned by Frank Sinatra with regular guests such as the Kennedys, the Rat Pack and Marilyn Monroe, is now under the ownership of Napa Valley-based real estate developer, Criswell-Radovan LLC. Though the new owners have not relayed specific details in store for the Cal Neva, representatives say they plan to work within the existing framework of the original building, which includes 219 guest rooms and cottages, as well as the spa, meeting space and restaurants. The hope is to open the new Cal Neva Resort on December 12, 2014, which would have been Frank Sinatra’s 99th birthday.

John Ascuaga’s Nugget is also under new ownership and undergoing a $50 million improvement project, including hotel rooms, public areas, restaurants and entertainment venues. In addition to restaurant renovations, a new Gilley’s Dance Hall, BBQ and Saloon is slated to open this spring. The new owners promise the redesign will differentiate the Nugget from other Reno Tahoe properties, and bring a sense of renewed energy to the resort.

Silver Legacy Resort Casino has completed $6 million worth of additions, upgrades and renovations heading into 2014. A new Starbucks is now open on the main casino floor, and the resort’s phenomenal lineup of great restaurants has welcomed a new, old-style Mexican hot spot in Hussong’s Cantina-Taqueria. The popular Café Sedona has experienced a complete remodel, and has reopened as Café Central, with an expanded menu and a fresh look. The resort has recently added the Aura Ultra Lounge, featuring the hottest beats and distinctive cocktails, as well as the only Blender Bar in Reno, which offers frozen specialty drinks housing up to 100 oz. of fruity flavors.

Grand Sierra Resort and Casino continues its $25 million renovation. The main entrance features the chandelier from the original MGM Hotel and Casino, which is now surrounded by fresh lounge-style seating and digital displays featuring the beautiful Reno Tahoe area. The lobby has seen a substantial upgrade from carpeting to rubbed bronze and brushed aluminum highlights at check-in. Guest rooms throughout the resort are also being upgraded to reflect the chic design of the property’s Summit Suites. Located in the heart of the casino floor, the new, premier ultra-lounge, WET features flair bartenders, live music and exclusive design features. Grand Sierra Resort has added a small-plate Mexican restaurant called Cantina, which provides an authentic experience as well as a variety of more than 115 different tequilas. An indoor pool, nightclub, sports book and racquetball court are all in the works for 2014. Grand Sierra Resort is one of the largest convention center resorts in the country, with more than 200,000 sq. ft. of meeting space which will soon be experiencing its portion of the renovation.

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and Peppermill Resort Spa Casino have also made major contributions to the more than $1 billion worth of improvements made throughout the destination over the past five years, not the least of which are their world-class spas.

If one of Reno Tahoe’s fantastic resorts is not quite large enough, the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority owns and/or operates the 500,000 sq. ft. Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, as well as the 6,000-seat Reno Events Center, Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center, National Bowling Stadium and Wildcreek Golf Course. With so many resorts and facilities, as well as relaxed labor laws, free airport shuttles and an opportunity to see the destination at no cose, there are thousands of reasons why your next Reno Tahoe event will be successful and affordable.
