(NORTH LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada) - Lake Tahoe remains the most popular ski destination in the U.S. for air-and-hotel package bookings for travel in 2010, taking the top spot on the Orbitz Insider Index for the third consecutive year.
"Orbitz is one of the largest online travel websites in the world," said Tourism Director Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. "To be ranked as the site's most popular ski destination in the country for the last three years is significant. Our own tourism numbers confirm Orbitz's findings. Visitors are absolutely traveling to North Lake Tahoe to enjoy the 22 feet of snowfall we've had to date."
North Lake Tahoe has benefited from a long-term relationship with Orbitz according to Chapman, whose tour and travel team regularly educates Orbitz staff about the North Lake Tahoe destination and how it differentiates from the competition.
Today, Orbitz offers a host of North Lake Tahoe inventory for the budget conscious to the high-end traveler both on and off the mountain, as well as lakeside. North Lake Tahoe also provides Orbitz with a season-long Interchangeable Lift Ticket, which Orbitz users can purchase, giving them the flexibility to ski or ride any of North Tahoe's seven ski resorts, representing a combined 12,000 acres, on any given day.
Along with Lake Tahoe's stellar snowpack (of which seven of the 22 feet this winter season fell in the last seven days), visitors are heading to the largest alpine lake in the country to get into the Olympic spirit.
"This ski season, there is excitement in the air at ski resorts around the country as top U.S. athletes train on the slopes for the games in February," said Senior Marketing Manager David De Lalio of Ski and Mountains for Orbitz Worldwide. "It's easy and affordable this year for travelers who are inspired to experience America's ski towns."
