| | For a week in August, Reno and Sparks regress to the glory days of the 1950s, with entertainment, cars and more food than you can shake a stick at. |
The mission of the Sports and Events Marketing department is to market Reno/Lake Tahoe as a prime event location and to facilitate area events for the purpose of generating room night revenue, procuring major media exposure and whenever possible, incorporating the utilization of RSCVA facilities.
The department generates awareness of Reno/Lake Tahoe by maintaining memberships in national and regional event and sports marketing organizations, by attending marketing conferences and by maintaining relationships with event partners such as NBC and ESPN.
Providing support for local events is also a major focus of this department. This is accomplished by participating on various boards and marketing committees, producing and maintaining an annual Special Events Calendar and by serving as a resource to local organizers. The Sports and Events Marketing Department focuses its role as an efficient event facilitator that specializes in bringing events to the region.
In the past year the department has been involved in a number of special events, including The Big West Basketball Tournament, Hot August Nights, The Reno Film Festival, The Reno Tahoe Open at Montreux, 2000 Falling Stars and Star Skates Goes Country.
